Oral history as a method in the units of history in the social studies

This study which includes introduction, three parts and conclusion was conducted by using literature research. Introduction part, the concepts of social science and social studies were taken, social studies teaching and related to it history teaching were to mentoined about. In first section the development of relationship between academic history and oral history was searched with the help of the examples in America, England and Germany; difference between oral history and oral tradition was determined; and the impact of oral history on academic history was disscussed. In second section, oral history activities that are performed in the schools of America and England were searched taking the interaction between oral history and education. And also how oral history can be applied in Turkey was discussed. In third section there are advices about the application of oral history and the questions about it. This study as a result suggest that history courses would be more interesting with history teaching, which is relied on oral history method.
