Investigation of the effect of the digital animation method enriched with the predict-observe and explanation technique used in the social school course on the concept of patriotims of fourth grade primary school students

The aim of this research is to examine the effect of digital story material prepared using various electronic media on the patriotism value of the students in the fourth-grade social studies course by enriching it with the prediction-observation-explanation technique. The case study pattern, one of the qualitative research approaches, was adopted. The study group of this research consists of 20 fourth grade students studying at Yozgat Yunus Emre Primary School in the spring semester of 2021-2022 academic year. Research data were obtained by semi-structured interview form, prediction-observation-explanation activity forms and observation method. Content analysis method was used in the analysis of the data. The data obtained in the research were analysed and interpreted by showing them in tables with themes, categories, codes and frequency values. When the findings were examined, it was seen with this research that prediction-observation-explanation and digital storytelling methods had positive effects on students' patriotism concept in many ways. As a result of the research, the participants' perceptions of homeland, patriotism, independence, Mehmet Akif Ersoy, the National Anthem, the Turkish Flag expanded, they understood the importance of the National Anthem, the answers they gave to the semi-structured interview questions were diversified and expanded, the number of words and sentences increased, the cause-and-effect answers of the participants It was seen that they gave place to the relationship between them and gave answers to the codes that met the themes. In addition, it has been determined that prediction-observation-explanation is an effective method in identifying misconceptions and providing conceptual changes, and digital storytelling and prediction-observation-explanation method are methods that can be used to improve the visual and auditory skills of the participants, to eliminate the lack of attention and to attract attention. In this study it was concluded that the use of prediction-observation-explanation and digital storytelling method in primary school 4th grade social studies value education has a positive effect on value acquisition.
