The effect of web 2.0 tools used in social studies course on student achievement and student opinions on the use of web 2.0 tools

Today, rapidly changing technological developments cause societies to interact more with events near and far. With the radical changes that have occurred with technology, people can access information faster and easier, from near to far. These developments have led to versatile changes in people's lifestyles, such as education, politics, culture, politics and technology. The aim of the research is to examine the effects of web 2.0 tools on student success in the Social Studies course and student opinions. The study group of the research consists of 22 students studying in the 5th grade at a school affiliated with the Ministry of Education in Sinop province in the fall semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. A mixed method, in which quantitative and qualitative methods were used together, was used in the research. In the quantitative part of the research, 'Academic Achievement Test' was used as a data collection tool. In the qualitative dimension of the research, a focus group interview form prepared by the researcher was used to obtain opinions about the use of web 2.0 tools. Data obtained from quantitative measurement tools were analyzed using the statistical package program (SPSS22). The data obtained from the qualitative measurement tool was analyzed using the descriptive analysis method. The academic success of the experimental group students, where Web 2.0 tools were used, differed statistically from the academic success of the control group students. It has been determined that the use of Web 2.0 tools in lessons contributes to the academic success of students. When their opinions about the use of Web 2.0 tools were examined, it was determined that most of the students participating in the research developed a positive perspective towards Web 2.0 tools and found these tools very useful. Students stated that they enjoyed the course taught with Web 2.0 tools, had a fun time, and increased their interest in the course. In this regard, teachers are recommended to actively use Web 2.0 tools in their lessons in order to make their lessons interesting and enjoyable for students.
