Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to reveal teachers' views on the role of social studies course in developing earthquake awareness. In the study, sequential-expository design, which is a mixed design in which qualitative and quantitative data are collected together, was used. The study group of the research consists of 243 social studies teachers working in educational institutions affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in the district centers of Elâzığ in the 2021-2022 academic year. The quantitative data of the study were collected with a questionnaire prepared by the researcher and the qualitative data were collected with a semi-structured interview form prepared by the researcher. For the analysis of the survey data, SPSS program was used and the data were analyzed using descriptive statistical test techniques. Qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis method. According to the results obtained from the research, it is seen that there is a significant difference in the opinions of social studies teachers with bachelor's degree and social studies teachers with master's degree. Bachelor's degree social studies teachers stated that the social studies course had a greater impact on the role of social studies in creating earthquake ethics than master's and doctoral degree social studies teachers. Teachers who graduated from social studies teaching departments stated that the social studies course has more impact on the role of social studies course in creating earthquake ethics than teachers who graduated from history and geography departments. The majority of the participants mentioned that the learning outcomes about natural disasters in the social studies course were insufficient.
