Opinions of social studies and science teachers on relating the 5th grade achievements: Ordu province example

The aim of this research is to reveal the views of social studies and science teachers about how the 5th grade achievements in the Social Studies and Science Curriculum can be related. In this study, which was conducted as a case study, data were collected from 30 social studies and 30 science teachers selected by purposeful sampling, through questionnaires and interview forms. The data obtained from the questionnaire form were analyzed by content analysis method and the data obtained from the interview form was analyzed by descriptive analysis method. Expert opinions were taken to ensure the validity of the research and pilot applications were carried out to ensure its reliability. In addition, after the survey and interview analysis, the data were reviewed 3 months later to ensure the reliability of the research. As a result of the research, social studies and science lesson teachers mostly associate the 5th grade achievements of social studies and science lessons by finding the subject contents between the lessons as related. It can be said that they mostly explain these associations with a multidisciplinary teaching approach. In addition, it was concluded that the teachers had positive opinions about the usability of the acquisitions they associate with the lessons, but they also had negative opinions as well as their positive opinions about their applicability in the lessons. In the light of the results of the research, it was suggested that correlations should be made between the achievements at other grade levels in the curriculum, guidebooks should be prepared with the cooperation of curriculum development, measurement and evaluation and field experts, presented to the use of teachers, and social studies course hours should be increased.
