Abstract (EN)
Democracy is an aim, preserving people?s right of freedom, live and happiness in reaching to human rights. Democracy consists equality, freedom, respect for human rights, national sovereignty, multiplism and participation principles.Democracy matters in Social Studies aim to instruction of those principles, provide social participation to students, develop point of view to social problems and make people aware of their rights and responsibilities. So views of trainees of social studies? teachers are important.In this study, the question ? What is the views of social studies teacher trainees in the matter of democracy in social studies for secondary grades in primary education?? has been looked for an answer. In study it has been sought if there is significant difference between trainees pursuant to eight independent variable that are sex type, license grade, type of education ( normal or evening education), high schools that they have graduated, settlements of their families, education levels of their parents, income levels of their parents.This study is a descriptive based research and data has been gathered with Survey Form comprising thirty three statements and eight independent variables in total. Survey statements have been divided into three groups; curriculum, textbook and teacher?s role. For data analysis, SPSS 17.0 (Statistical Packages for Social Sciences) packet program has been used.The students of Social Studies Teaching Department, Gazi University Faculty of Education, have constituted the target population of study and teacher trainees in 3rd and 4th class in Social Studies Teaching Department, Gazi University Faculty of Education have constituted the sample of study. 290 teacher trainees have been applied for survey in total.As a result, after data analysis, in the views of teacher trainees in curriculum consisting democracy matters in terms of sex type, the views of them in teacher?s role in terms of their sex type and their high schools, the views of them in textbook consisting democracy matters in terms of their instruction type (normal or evening education), there has been significant differences. In contrast, in other independent variables, in the views of teacher trainees in curriculum, textbook and teacher?s role, there hasn?t been a significant difference. At the end of the study, suggestions to democracy matters by commenting the results of this study have been improved.Keywords: Social Studies, Democracy, Democracy Education, Teacher Trainee
