Abstract (EN)
The concept of social studies has taken its place in all societies since the early ages. It has continued its existence in every age with philosophers in the first age, Islamic scholars in the middle age, reputed thinkers in the western world, and scientists in the new and recent ages. The first systematic emergence of the concept of social studies was in America. The main purpose of the emergence of this concept is the idea of transforming the multinational structure that emerged as a result of immigration into the American society, which is their common ideal. The national education council convened in 1982 prepared a social studies course program in order to create an Anglo-Saxon-based national social order. In the history of Turkish education, the social studies course has been taught under various names. The name of social studies was used for the first time in the draft program of the Village Institutes in 1968. In the following periods, it included in programs with various names and lastly included the program in 1998 under the name of social studies. After that, radical changes were made in the understanding of the program in 2005. Afterwards, the draft program was published in 2015 and the new social studies course secondary school program was published in 2018. After the inclusion of social studies as a course in the program, the need for teachers with competencies in the field emerged. As a result of the protocol signed between the Turkish Ministry of National Education and the World Bank in 1991, social studies teacher education started in education faculties as of the 1997-1998 academic year. After this period, 3 social studies teacher training programs were published in 1998, 2007 and 2018. The aim of the research is to compare the published social studies teacher training programs and the secondary school social studies curriculum in terms of content. For this purpose, the courses in the social studies teacher training programs are divided into 6 course groups: educational sciences, general culture, field education, other social disciplines, geography discipline and history discipline. First, the number of courses and credits in teacher training programs were determined. Then, the relations between the achievements in the units in the secondary school social studies curriculum and the lessons of other social disciplines, geography discipline and history discipline course groups were determined. Finally, it was tried to determine the equivalence of the course groups in the social studies teacher training program published in 2018 and the units in the secondary school social studies curriculum published in 2018. As a result of the examinations, it has been determined that although the other social disciplines course group courses are more related to the achievements in the secondary school social studies curriculum, the courses belonging to this course group are less included in the 2018 social studies teacher training program in terms of the number of credits and courses. As a result of the study, it is recommended to increase the number of courses in other social disciplines course group.
