Opinions of social studies teachers on the use of children's rights by students withspecial education needs

This research aims to understand the view of social studies teachers on the rights of children with special education needs. The study aims to assignhow children's rights are implemented in the educational processes of students with special education needs and to define awareness on this issue. The research aims to understand theframe of mindand commonattitudes of social studies teachers towards special education students. In this study, an assessment was made on the views of students with special education needs on children's rights and how they exercisethese rights. The research used a qualitative research method, specifically a case study design. Thedata were obtained through semi-structured interview with 30 Social Studies teachers working in various secondary schools within the boundaries of thecity of Manisaduring the spring semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. According totheresultobtainedthoroughthe data: It was found that social studies teachers were awake to the content of the convention on children's rights, but various problems were encountered in the implementation of children's rights. Some of these include the inadequacy of the schools' physical structure, deficiencies in the classroom environment, and the lack of any efforts or appropriate environments for implementing children's rights. Other main results as follows: Children's rights are not adequately included in textbooks, someteachers do not have enough knowledge of special education, parents' lack of knowledge, and the absence of extraeducation rooms for student. In conclusion, it was also determined that there were no projects or team work specifically conducted. The results of the research and teacher procedures have led to a long-term conclusion regarding the teaching of children's rights in a special periodic manner and to their patients.
