Özet (EN)

The purpose of this study is to examine the environmental feelings and behaviors of Social Studies teachers in terms of various variables (Gender, Professional seniority, place of birth and growth, mother's education level, father's education level, sources from which they obtain information about the environment, membership status of environmental non-governmental organizations). The research is a descriptive study designed in survey model. The research was conducted with 81 Social Studies teachers working in public secondary schools within the borders of Ağrı province in the 2022-2023 academic year. In the research, the "simple random" sampling method, one of the probability-based sampling methods, was used. Participation in the study was taken into account on a voluntary basis. The environmental literacy scale developed by Sontay, Gökdere, Usta (2015) was used as a data collection tool in the study. Data obtained from social studies teachers were analyzed using a quantitative statistics program. Environmental perceptions and behaviors of social studies teachers were examined in two different dimensions of the Environmental literacy scale (Affective Tendencies towards the Environment and Environmental Behavior Test); As a result of the findings, it was seen that the data did not lead to a statistically significant difference according to the variables of Gender, Professional Tenure, Place of Birth and Raising, Mother's Educational Status, Father's Educational Status. On the other hand, it was observed that the "Source of Information Obtained on the Environment" variable caused a statistically significant difference in the Affective Tendencies towards the Environment scale, and this was in favor of those who learned from "All" (Family, Mass Media, Academic Publications). It was observed that there was no statistically significant difference in terms of the Environmental Behavior Test Scale. In addition, the findings obtained from Social Studies teachers' Affective Tendencies Towards the Environment and Environmental Behavior Test scales were examined in terms of the "Membership Status of Non-Governmental Organizations Related to the Environment" variable and according to the findings, the teachers' average scores did not cause a statistically significant difference in the "Affective Tendencies Towards the Environment" scale. While it is seen that the difference between teachers who are members of non-governmental organizations and those who are not members is in favor of teachers who are members; It was observed that there was no statistically significant difference in terms of "Environmental Behavior Test". In order to determine whether there is a relationship between Social Studies teachers' affective tendencies towards the environment and their environmental behavior situations, a simple linear correlation (Pearson Moment Product Correlation Coefficient) calculation was made. According to the results obtained, the relationship was found to be positive and significant.
