Proficiency of social studies teachers in technopedagogical content knowledge and review of their opinion as to Web 2.0 technologies

The aim of this research is to establish proficiency of Social Studies teachers in technological pedagogical content knowledge and to review the teachers' opinion as to Web 2.0 technologies. The working group of the research was formed of Social Studies teachers working in various districts of Ankara province. The mixed method in which qualitative and quantitative methods were integrated was used in the research. As data acquisition means, "Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge Scale" and "Semi-Structured Interview Form" were used. In the quantitative part of the research, the data was analyzed through SPSS software. In the analysis of the qualitative data, however, descriptive analysis was used. Proficiency of Social Studies Teachers in Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge was examined according to TPACK sub-dimensions and the data was shown in tables. Furthermore, state and frequency of the teachers' use of Web 2.0 technologies and their opinions about the process of integration in teaching were interpreted. When the findings obtained in the research were interpreted, it was found that the Social Studies teachers' proficiency was high according to TPACK subdimensions. However, it was reached the information that the teachers in the working group considered themselves adequate on Web 2.0 technologies. It was established that the Social Studies teachers have positive attitude towards technological practices and are willing to receive training in this subject. In line with the findings obtained from the research results, suggestions are made for the Social Studies teachers on the process of integration of technologies in the education processes.
