Özet (EN)

This thesis was designed to examine the relationship between the life satisfaction levels of individuals benefiting from the Social Economic Support (SED) service at the Bitlis Social Service Center (SHM) and socio-demographic characteristics. The primary objective of the study is to understand how SED services affect individuals' overall life satisfaction. A quantitative survey was administered to 368 individuals receiving services from the Bitlis SHM. Data were analyzed using SPSS and interpreted using frequency, cross-tabulations, chi-square, and ANOVA tests. The findings revealed that the majority of individuals benefiting from SED services were female, low-income, and low-educated. Women had lower life satisfaction than men, and life satisfaction was particularly low among younger individuals. Participants perceived SED services as inadequate, faced difficulties meeting their basic needs despite receiving assistance for a long time, and had limited access to psychosocial support services. This study contributes to the literature by demonstrating the impact of social assistance on individual well-being using field data. This research conducted at the local level shows that social assistance policies need to be more holistic, needs-based and sustainable.
