Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to explore the experiences of older adults in using gerontechnology within healthcare services, the challenges they face, the support mechanisms they utilize, and their expectations from social services. The research was conducted using a phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research methods. The study was carried out with 20 older adults living in urban areas who had access to digital health services. Participants were selected through criterion sampling, a purposeful sampling method. Data were collected through face-to-face, in-depth interviews using a personal information form and a semi-structured interview form. The data obtained from the interviews were analyzed using the thematic analysis method of Braun and Clarke (2006) with the aid of the Nvivo 10 software. Findings revealed that older adults most frequently used digital health platforms such as MHRS and e-Nabız for scheduling medical appointments, accessing health information, and monitoring chronic conditions. Technological complexity, digital security concerns, and limited institutional support emerged as the main barriers in the usage process. Family members were the most common source of assistance; however, the communication style of the support provider directly affected learning motivation. Participants expressed a need for simplified content, one-on-one training, neighborhood-based support points, and digital counseling services. In conclusion, to enhance the use of digital technology among older adults, it is recommended to design voluntary, readiness-based, practical, and repetitive training programs; develop age-friendly devices and content; and strengthen the capacity of social services in providing digital counseling and on-site support mechanisms.
