Investigation of relationship academic achievement and loneliness level from the perspective of social work

As the societies develops, education systems and approches changes with the economic and social activities. These changes effect the student involved in the education system. The academic achievement which indicates the existance of the student is related to happiness and social support systems. Feelings such as loneliness that we may come across during our life adventure could be confronted in the process of school education and could be the source of many problems. The main purpose of this study is investigate the levels of achievement and levels of loneliness of high school students in context of some variables and find out whether there are a significant difference between. On the other hand, it is aimed to find out what kind of social services could be given to academically unsuccessfull children and students with high loneliness level. This research was conducted as a descriptive field research based on scanning model. The sample group consisted of 665 studends chosen randomly from all classes from 7 high schools in Bursa city Gemlik town in 2013-2014 education term. As a means of data collection, UCLA Loneliness Scale which validity and reliability of were conducted by Demir (1989) and Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher were used. SPSS 21.0 statistical software used to analyze the data and from the findings tables and interpretations were created. As a result of analysis, it was observed that there is significant difference between the level of academic achievement and the level loneliness. Also, some of the variables have a significant difference with the levels of loneliness and a relation with levels of academic achievement.
