Examination of social media addiction by DEMATEL method: The example of housewives

Technology is advancing rapidly in our era. Social media has also become one of the most important elements of today. With the development and progress of social media, social media addiction has emerged, and this represents an essential problem for today. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the social media addictions of housewives, who are mainly a part of social life. "60" housewives voluntarily participated in the study. A questionnaire form was created to collect the data, and it was applied face to face. Housewives taking part in the research stated that they spend an average of "5" hours a day on social media. The reasons that cause social media addiction of housewives; were examined in three main groups in our study. The criteria that established these three main groups are; "Psychological Criteria", "Latent Criteria" and "Personality Criteria" were handled. Sub-criteria of these main factors were also created. These criteria and their sub-criteria were compared in pairs, and the results were analyzed with the DEMATEL method. According to the results of the analysis, the most important factor causing the social media addiction of housewives is psychological factors. Among the sub-criteria of Psychological criteria, the most important sub-criterion that causes social media addiction in housewives is loneliness.
