Social media and translation: The ways social media activists use translation

With the transformation of media convergence processes in the broad network band with online algorithms, the dynamic search of communities for information seeking and obtaining in the processing and sharing of content in the cyber environment has paralleled the observation of an increase in their operational interactions. Technological habits shaped based on Web 2.0 necessitated focusing on representative regulatory mechanisms within the scope of industrial competition in the global communication network, allowing translation to be repositioned in the interaction of languages and cultures in new media patterns where borders are removed. This study focuses on the shares that the activists, as translation actors, through the media tools under their real and legal personalities within the scope of translation forms on the digital communication protocols of translation, such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Twitter, by observing the forms that the media has taken in its adventure from history to the present in the changing world. In the construction of independent movements, the social media tools nurture the systems that support the transformation, legitimizing the interaction by providing coordination in the mobilization processes between the masses in online structures. This situation can affect the transformation processes of human communities, where activists, who strategically prepare the construction of a collective consciousness by bringing together the masses with their posts, interact through a participatory network, unlike traditional media, in social media, where the importance and effects of social events are evaluated and awareness is created through individual comments. Language, which is the primary tool of action of digital activists, interacts with the masses with the formation of utterances, becomes a process organizer, and creates a formal effect in the structuring and transformation of styles through translation. Linking cyber patterns directly with linguistic elements, widening the fields of action of activists thanks to the versatile applicability of translation in practice, required the main findings to be discussed with a descriptive approach to translation actors and activities.
