Abstract (EN)

Identity, defined as an ensemble of the conditions which makes of a `?man?? an individual, is based on his attributions, features and specifications that distinguishes him among the others. In addition, identity is a representation of an individual existence in a society and also a proof to legitimate claims on who he is. Identity determines the presence of an individual in relation to his self, the others as well as to the state and society which he lives in, while sustaining its singularity and relationality. The presence, in question, takes a form of individual, social, collective and cultural identities and recently, it has been transformed into a manifestion of a religious identity. In addition, social media practices which allow people to create and share any concept without a motivation of an ideological ground, contribute and proliferate this manifestation. Also, it offers a free space to `?images?? which people put together voluntarily in accordance with their religious identities. Therefore, the problematic of this study encircles the question of how and through what constituents the representations of religious identities are constructed in social media. These representations are analysed by means of `?Social Representations Theory??,content and discourse analysis methodologies over a 3 month period ( December, January and February 2013), together with the trending topics on Twitter and tweets for the depiction of various characteristics on religious identity.
