Functionality status of social assistance provided by Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundations: Sample of Bartin

Nowadays, poverty has more importance which has an important place in societies in every period of history. The states responsible for meeting the basic needs of their citizens with a social state understanding provide services in the field of fighting poverty through social welfare. Although there are many organizations that provide social assistance services in our country, the Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundations (SASF) established in every province and district have an important effect in the fight against poverty. While social welfares given are of vital importance, they can also have negative effects on human life. For this purpose, it should be ensured that the social assistance provided by foundations not taken citizens away from the labor market, not to be lazy, and distribute them fairly and effectively. In this study; The demographic characteristics, socio-economic status, poverty and social welfares of the people who receive social assistance from the Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundations and the personnel working in the foundations are tried to learn the functionality of the foundations, which are increasing in number of citizens, by learning their thoughts about the functioning of the foundations. The effectiveness of the functionality of the foundations is important due to its role in social assistance addiction and fighting poverty. Descriptive analysis method was used in this study. The sample of the study consists of 404 citizens who have received welfare from the foundations in Center of Bartın and Kurucaşile, Ulus, Amasra districts and have applied for welfare between 10.10.2019-25.12.2019 dates and 25 staff who have been working in these foundations. Questionnaires prepared by the researcher were applied to citizens and staff. As a result of the study, it has been concluded that although the social welfares provided are functional at a certain level, they are not sufficient, and innovation and radical changes should be made in this field.
