Effects of the social assistance and solidarity foundations on poverty and example of Muş city

Although, as a multidimensional concept, poverty is a changeable issue depending on time and place, it is a social problem that cannot be identified just according to income and another variable. In the general meaning, poverty is people's being unable to meet their basic needs. Undertaking an important duty in order to prevent the poverty and in order to eliminate the shortcomings for ensuring the society's welfare in Turkey, Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundations try to fulfil their duties by financial and moral aids, in another word by humanitarian aids for the poor. Muş city, situated near the Plain of Muş, is in the east part of Turkey and it is an economically undeveloped city. Despite the fact that Muş city takes place in the Eastern Anatolia Regional Development Project, it has been found that the society needs social aids because of having low income levels. As a conclusion, if the fact that social aids cannot be an exact solution for the problem of the poverty is taken into consideration; it can be seen that social aids create a temporary wellness for individuals and families getting an aid, they cause an "aid addiction" among the poor, they cause people who have a job to get an aid by pretending themselves as unemployed and also it can be seen that low education levels trigger the poverty and social aids can't reach the target group sufficiently.
