Globalisation and nation-state from a sociological point of view (Giddens, Bauman and Habermas)

The considerations on sociocultural, political and economic context of the powerful representatives of new sociology theories Habermas and Bauman who are against globalisation and, Giddens who supports the idea of the necessity of reconfiguration of nation-states againsts globalisation; bring a new sociological aspect to the globe society in terms of situation of nation-states and globalisation phenomenon. Globalization leads the modifications in the domination areas of nation-states at the same time, since it is a fact, that reconfigurates the modern societies and world order and it constitutes the background of social, political and economic changes.Giddens, Bauman and Habermas have different opinions about the future of globalization against nation-states. While Giddens, has the idea that nations become to have a cosmopolite structure in the globalization process with a new idea of democratisation. Bauman mentions the effects of the globalization process to the structure of the nation-state by dealing with the negative aspects of the globalisation, but he does not recognize a new structural model. On the other hand, Habermas states that, in order to strengthen their existance and sovereignty against globalization process, nation-states have to manage with regional integrations by precluding their national identities.Briefly, as a result of examining the relationship between globalisation and nation-state, from a sociological point of view, in the frame of the views and ideas of this eras three valuable sociologists; the idea of ?globalisation phenomenon can not extinguish the being of nation-states but there is a requirement for reconfiguration of nation-states against globalization? appears.Keywords: Globalization, Nation-State, Anthony Giddens, Jurgen Habermas, Zygmunt Bauman
