The Corruption phenomenon in a sociological point of view

ABSTRACTIn this study, the phenomenon of corruption and its historical transformation isinvestigated from a sociological point of view. The corruption which is a criminalactivity is commented under the frame of criminal sociology and the main causes ofcriminal activities have been emphasized.The aim of the study is to explain the crime of corruption in grounds ofsociological theories and phenomena and to explain the dimensions of corruption inTurkey.In the study the quantitative analysis which is a kind of discourse analysis, isused as a method of research. The research is intensified on the media. The threemost circulating papers from three main media groups have taken into considerationbecause of their circulation rates. It is aimed to investigate the attitude of the mediaas a whole towards corruption matters by evaluating the frequency of articles andnews concerning corruption crimes.Acknowledging that the challenge against corruption is made to thegovernments by a free media organization, it is concluded that the deficiency of theTurkish media in challenging corruption is one of the most important reasons why thecorruption in Turkey is can not be prevented.Key Words: Corruption, Transparency, Media, Bank, Crime
