Introduction of psychological counseling and guidance into Turkey from the sociological perspective in Turkey

In our study, we have readdressed the introduction of the branch of Psychological Counseling and Guidance in Turkey from the sociological perspective to comprehendthe reasons for the problems experienced in that area. As we aim at seeking the roots of the reasons for the problems in depth we have adopted the historical method based on literature review as the methodology of the study. The relations supporting our assertions are traced over the texts in the fields of sociology, history, and PCG. Our thesis is consist of three chapters. In the first chapter, we have focused on the USA as its conditions gave birth to the PCG and and its course of development in time. In the second chapter of the thesis a general state of Turkey is presented to provide a general picture regarding the richness and weaknesses that Turkey inherited from the previous period within the course of history. Such picture has allowed us to trace the conditions which paved the way for PCR in Turkey during the pre-1950 period and the existence of PCG within those conditions. In the third chapter, the overall picture of Turkey in the post-1950 in which PCG was introduced to Turkey is discussed within the context of the Cold War. Thus, the introduction of PCG to Turkey is outlined in the scope of the relationship with the USA. In the light of this information, it has been concluded that even tough PCG was introduced to Turkey in the American model,, it has not developed in the example of it and has evolved and gained its form in line with the social needs and conditions of Turkey.
