Examining the relationship between phubbing, self control, and academic procrastination

Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to examine the mediating role of self-control in the relationship between phubbing and academic procrastination in university students. The sample of the study consists of 539 (388 female, 151 male) students studying at Inonu University. In order to collect data from the sample, Personal Information Form, Brief Self-Control Scale, Academic Procrastination Scale, and General Phubbing Scale were used. From the AMOS program for the confirmatory factor analysis of the scales; Pearson correlation analysis was used to examine the relationships between the variables in the model. In order to examine the mediating role of self-control in the relationship between phubbing and academic procrastination, a mediation analysis was performed using the bootstrapping technique and the Process Macro application. As a result of the analyzes carried out, it was found that there is a positive relationship between phubbing and academic procrastination, a negative relationship between phubbing and self-control, and a negative relationship between self-control and academic procrastination. When the mediating role of self-control in the relationship between phubbing and academic procrastination was examined, it was concluded that the indirect effect was significant and that self-control had a partial mediator role. By discussing the findings, various suggestions were made to researchers and practitioners.
