Abstract (EN)
In this study, it was aimed to examine the issue of artificial hunger and shortage, which are the significant events in the Kazakh history, and its reflection on the Kazakh literature. In this context, selected works from the Kazakh literature were translated into Turkish, and it was aimed to contribute to the studies conducted on this subject. Firstly, literature review was conducted on the research subject. Written sources such as the books, and articles in the Kazakh and Turkish were analyzed. In addition to literary works, historical works were also used. As a consequence of the literature review, the works that express the subject in the best way were selected. In order to better understand the subject, first of all, the historical background of artificial hunger was given. Literary works were selected and examined, according to the years in which they were written, During the study, it was seen that the issue of artificial hunger and scarcity in the works differs according to the years it was written. While the issue of hunger was written implicitly, especially during the Stalin period, when censorship was intense; it was addressed more clearly and in detail towards the years of independence. It was written mostly in the form of short stories in the Soviet Era. There are stories in which hunger is based on class inequality and more starving people are depicted. The subject was examined in a wider scope and more literary works were written after independence.
