The investigation of emotional intelligence levels and effective communication skills according to some variables of students of sports sciences faculty

THE INVESTIGATION OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE LEVELS AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS ACCORDING TO SOME VARIABLES OF STUDENTS OF SPORTS SCIENCES FACULTY Yılmaz S. Aydın Adnan Menderes University, Health Sciences Institute, Physcial Educution and Sport Education Program, Master Thesis, Aydın, 2024. Objective: Within the scope of this study, emotional intelligence levels and effective communication skills of sport sciences faculty students were examined according to some variables. Material and Methods: Relational survey model, one of the quantitative research approaches, was used in the study. The sample of the study consists of 339 students from Aydın Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Sport Sciences. The sample of the study was determined by Simple Random Sampling Method, one of the random sampling methods. Personal information form, Schutte emotional intelligence scale and effective communication skills scale were used in the analysis of the data obtained with the appropriate program. Results: Significant differences were found between emotional intelligence and effective communication skills according to age, grade, gender and income status. It was determined that there was a significant positive relationship between the sub- dimensions of optimism/mood regulation and evaluation of emotions of Schutte emotional intelligence scale and the sub-dimensions of ego- enhancing language, effective listening, self- knowledge/ opening, empathy and using I language of communication skills scale. Emotional intelligence was found to be positively correlated with effective listening, self-knowledge/self-disclosure and use of I-language. There was a significant positive correlation between the use of emotions and effective listening, self- knowledge/self-disclosure and use of I- language. Conclusion: Within the scope of sports activities, the relationship levels of athletes' emotional intelligence levels and effective communication skills will make a great contribution to the success of sports faculty students in their academic studies, social skills and also in the sports organizations they will participate in.
