Methodological analysis of postgraduate theses on physical education teachers in sport sciences: A content analysis

In this research, it is aimed to examine the methodological structures of postgraduate thesis studies between 2011-2021 on physical education teachers under the roof of Higher Education Institutions in Turkey. The scope of the research consists of open-access Turkish postgraduate theses on physical education teachers, which were accessed through the Higher Education Institution Thesis System between the years 2011-2021. As a result of the scans, 263 studies, 66 of which were doctoral and 197 postgraduate, were reached. The sample of the research consists of 263 postgraduate theses. The "Thesis Review Form" created by Ataş (2015) was used in order to examine the theses accessed from the thesis screening page of the Higher Education Institution according to their different variables. The developed thesis review form was adapted to this study. This form contains information about descriptive information, method, design, sampling method, sample groups, data collection tools and data analysis methods related to the graduate theses accessed. In the research, scanning model and document analysis were used to collect data. Frequency and percentage calculations were made using the spss package program on the obtained data. As a result of the findings, it was determined that most of the people who carried out the studies in the postgraduate studies examined were male and the majority of the titles of the faculty members who were thesis advisors were assistant professors. The research methodology used in the theses was not specified in the majority of theses, and it was also seen that the most descriptive survey model was used as the research design. In the sample groups, it is obvious that the teachers are mostly used as the sample group. In addition, it has been determined that surveys are mostly preferred and used as data collection tool in theses. In terms of the number of theses, it was determined that the postgraduate theses examined in this study were made mostly in 2019. As for an institute, it was observed that the most postgraduate theses were made in the Health Sciences Institute. When examined as a department, it was observed that the most postgraduate theses were made in the field of physical education and sports. On the basis of university, it is concluded that theses are mostly done in Gazi University.
