Determination of attitudes regarding to information and communication technologies of university students of sports education

Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to determine using the descriptive scanning model and the survey method the attitudes of university students who have different socio-economic structure towards information and communication technologies which are increasingly used in our everyday life. The "Attitude Scale of Information and Communication Technologies", which was developed by Günbatar (2014) and validated and tested for reliability, was used to determine the level of using information and communication technologies by the students who received sports education. The participants of the study, students who are studying at universities which provide sports training in Turkey. For sampling, the students studying of Sport Academies/School of Physical Education and Sports composed of 1223 students (Fırat University, Ondokuz Mayıs University, Marmara University, Sıtkı Kocman University, Akdeniz University, Gazi University and Dicle University) which are located in seven regions of Turkey's universities was randomly selected and the scale. The present study is divided into two sections. The first section consists of literature review related to the information and communication technologies. In the second section, attitude scale was used. The obtained data were evaluated with SPSS 22.0 package program. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, one-way Anova and independent t-test were used for data analysis. The significance level of statistical analyses was accepted as p<0,05. According to the result of this study, it was determined that university students attending sports education have higher attitudes towards information and communication technologies (p<0,05). It has been found out that, in terms of software usage and the communication dimensions in the virtual environment, the students who are studying at the faculties have higher attitudes than students studying at the colleges (p<0,05). When the considering of the attitude of students participating in the research to information and communication technologies, it was concluded that the attitudes of male students in computer hardware dimensions were higher than the female students (p<0,05). It is envisaged that this study will make contributions in determining the attitudes of university students attending sports education towards information and communication technologies.
