Abstract (EN)
The aim of this research was to examine the psychological endurance and personality levels of the students studying at Faculty of Education and of the students studying at Faculty of Sports Sciences and to show whether there is any difference between these two variables. Taking account of the psychological endurance and personality levels of the students studying at Faculty of Education and of the students studying at Faculty of Sports Sciences, it was tried to show the results in accordance with the relational screening model. Target population of the study was composed of students studying at Sakarya University in the academic year 2015-2016. The sample of the research consisted of a total of 365 (n = 197 males, n = 168 females) ones selected by basic random sampling method from among students who were educated at Faculty of Education (n=166) and Faculty of Sports Sciences (n=199), Sakarya University, respectively, in the 2015-2016 academic year. "Personal Information Form" developed by the researcher, "Personality Inventory" developed by Benet-Martinez and John (1998) and adapted to Turkish by Sümer, Lajunen and Özkan, (2005), "Psychological Endurance Scale for Adults" developed by Friborg et al. (2003) and adapted to Turkish by Basım and Çetin (2011) were used as data collection tools. Descriptive statistical distributions were determined by taking into account the personal characteristics of the participants in the analysis of the data. To determine whether the difference between group means for demographic variables is significant, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov was used to test whether subscales of psychological endurance and five factor personality are shown the normal distribution. Relationship between independent variables related to sub-problems and psychological endurance and five factor personality traits were tested with parametric tests, and t-test was used for paired comparisons. Pearson Product-Moment Correlation (r) Coefficient was employed to determine whether there is any relationship between psychological endurance and five factor personality traits of the participants. The level of significance was accepted as 0.05. The results of the study indicate that a significant difference was between sporting situation, sporting year, parental attitude, sports branches, academic achievement and eating habits of students educating at Faculty of Education and Faculty of Sports Sciences in terms of total scores of psychological endurances. It has been established that a significant difference was also between gender, sporting situation, sporting year and socio-economic situations in terms of the personality traits of the students. It has been reached a conclusion, however, that psychological endurance and personality traits of the students did not lead to any difference in terms of the use of bad habits. On the other hand, it has been concluded that there was a moderate positive relationship considering the results of Pearson Moments Correlation Coefficient in terms of psychological endurance and personality traits of the students. Key words: Psychological Endurance, Doing Sports, Personality.
