Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine the self-sensitivity of high school students and their emotional distance towards the disabled according to their sports status. General survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the study. A total of 706 high school students participated in the study. Personal Information Form, Self-Compassion Scale, and Emotional Distance to Others scale were used as data collection tools. Descriptive statistics and shapiro-wilk and kolmogorov smirnov normality tests were used to analyze the data, and Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis tests were applied. Spearman correlation test was used in the correlation analysis. The 'Emotional Distance Scale Against the Disabled' developed by Yılmaz (2018) and Ümran et al. (2007) 'Self-Compassion Scale', which was adapted into Turkish, was used. In the findings, a difference in favor of 17 years was found in the dimensions of self-sensitivity scale, self-judgment, awareness of sharing and over-identification in terms of age variable. According to the gender variable, a significant difference was found in favor of men in the sub-dimensions of self-compassion and awareness of sharing, and in favor of women in the sub-dimensions of isolation and over-identification. In terms of the class variable, the emotional distance towards the disabled scale is in the 12th grade in the sub-dimensions of emotional distance towards the disabled in remote area, private space and school life, and 10th and 12th in the emotional distance towards the disabled in public space sub-dimensions. A significant difference was found in favor of the class. When examined in terms of regular sports variable, a significant difference was found in favor of those who said yes in the sub-dimensions of emotional distance towards the disabled in public and private spaces. In terms of the variable of having a disabled friend in the classroom, a significant difference was found in favor of those who said yes in the emotional distance sub-dimensions of distant space, public space and school life. In the correlation findings, moderate positive relations were determined in the sub-dimensions of emotional distance towards the disabled in the distant, private and school life sub-dimensions of self-compassion and awareness of sharing, and in the sub-dimension of emotional distance towards the disabled in the public sphere, in the sub-dimensions of self-compassion, awareness of sharing and consciousness. . In conclusion; it can be said that sports cause positive results in the approach to disabled people and make significant contributions to the emotional distance sub-dimensions and the development of self-sensitivity towards the disabled.
