The effect of sports managers' mental toughness and emotional intelligence levels on decision-making styles

This study was carried out to determine the effects of mental toughness and emotional intelligence levels on decision-making styles in sports managers and to reveal their relations with some demographic variables. In the study, data were collected by using the likert type questionnaire method. In the first part of the questionnaire, which consists of four parts, there is a demographic information form. In the second part, the Mental Toughness Scale in Sports was developed by Sheard, Golby and Van Wersch (2009) it was adapted to Turkish by Altıntaş and Koruç (2016) and studied for validity and reliability. In the third part ,there is the Original Form Schutte Emotional Intelligence Test, which was adapted to Turkish and studied for validaty and reliable by Tatar, Tok and Saltukoğlu. In the last part, there is the Melbourne Decision Making Scale, which was originally developed by Mann and colleagues (1998), which were adapted into Turkish by Deniz (2004) and studied for validity and reliability. The data of the research were obtained from 219 volunteers from the personnel in the administrative positions in the Provincial and District Organizations of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. First of all, data were collected by face-to-face, and data were obtained from further cities and towns via Google Forms and e-mails. As a result of the research, genders variables relation with mental toughness sub-dimensions and emotional intelligence level; decision making styles relations with age and working time variables has Significant effects were found. In addition, it is found that, there were interactions between mental toughness, emotional intelligence and decision-making styles. Significant relationship found between emotional intelligence and decision-making styles.
