Effect of statile stretching and dynamic stretching exercises on sprint performance in athletes

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to compare the effects of static and dynamic stretching exercises on sprint performance of athletes and to determine which type of stretching exercise is more effective on sprint performance. a total of 16 athletes who played amateur sports at Gümüşhane in the 2024 season voluntarily participated in the study. General information was given about the 16 athletes participating in this study. Before starting the exercises, the athletes were randomly divided into 2 groups. One of these groups was the Static Stretching group, the other was the Dynamic Stretching group. Before starting the studies, height (cm) and weight (kg) measurements of the athletes were taken and 10m and 20m sprint runs were performed as preliminary tests. The trainings lasted 6 weeks and were held 3 days a week. At the end of the study program, 10m and 20m sprint measurements were taken as the final test, and analyses were performed for pre-test and post-test changes. While no significant difference was detected in the 10m and 20m Sprint measurements of the Static Stretching Group, a significant difference was detected in the 10m and 20m Sprint measurements of the Dynamic Stretching Group. In this study, as a result of the warm-up protocols performed for 6 weeks, more efficient results were obtained in the 10m and 20m sprint test results of athletes who performed dynamic stretching exercises compared to the static stretching group. As a result, it was concluded that dynamic stretching exercises produced more positive results than static stretching exercises when performed before the competition.
