Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the relation between general self-sufficiency beliefs and physical activity levels of the adult individuals who participate and don't participate in recreational athletic activities in existing recreational areas in Elazığ city center. Adult individuals aged between 18 and 65 who participate and don't participate in recreational athletic activities in relevant athletic areas in Elazığ city center constitute the population of the cross-sectional research. "Socio-Demographic Status Form", "International Physical Activity Questionnaire – Short Form" and "General Self-Sufficiency Belief Scale (GSSBS) evaluating the physical activity levels of individuals were used as data collection tool. A total of 954 people were evaluated after faulty and inadequate questionnaire data were excluded. When the athletic participation of the participants were compared to their physical activity level, a statistically significant difference was found in the study (p<0.05). When the total GSSBS score of athletic participation status was compared to its sub-component (starting, standing up and sustainability) scores, statistically significant difference was found (p<0.05). Moreover, when the physical activity level was compared to the GSSBS score and its sub-components, a significant difference was found between them (p<0.05). While there is no significant correlation found between physical activity level and GSSBS total score (p>0.05), a significant correlation was determined between the dimensions of standing up and sustainability being among the sub-components of GSSBS and physical activity levels (p<0.05). In conclusion, no significant relation was established between the physical activity levels of the participants and their GSSBS total scores. A positively weak and significant relation was ascertained between the dimensions of standing up and sustainability being among the sub-components of GSSBS and physical activity levels. It has been determined in the study that there is a positively weak and significant relation between the participation of individuals in recreational athletic activities and their physical activity level.
