Evaluation of the inclusion of sports in social work practices by social workers

The aim of this research is to investigate the processes of social workers using physical activity and sports in their current interventions and to determine their thoughts their thoughts on using sports and social work in a common practice in this process and to reveal the need for sports and social work. When we analyze the literature, it is seen same mentions about the sports in social work practices, but there is not many studies. No research has been found directly related to the inclusion of sports in social work practice. Accordingly, this study, which investigates the experiences and thoughts of social workers regarding the inclusion of sports in social work practices, becomes important. The research was conducted in a phenomenological pattern, which is a type of qualitative research. The interviews were conducted with a semi-structured interview form. The research sample was determined through purposeful sampling. The research population consists of social workers working in Turkey. To reach social workers, we first contacted the Association of Social Workers. Social workers were reached through the snowball method. As a result of the research, it was revealed that sports is an important tool in social work practices by positively affecting the well-being of the client and improving the practice. However, it has been concluded that sports are not included in social work practice at the desired level and are not widespread in our country.
