Özet (EN)
In this thesis, importance of reusing dredged materials and methods of soil stabilization and solidification are investigated. Quantities and types of soil agents are mentioned. Test procedures and test results are examined and compared with other researches. In addition; previous researches that related to this subject were briefly mentioned. As the experimental part of this study, soil samples, taken from Izmir Bay are treated with different chemical additives with different proportions in order to obtain strength values for the possible usage of the dredge material as a raw material for geotechnical construction purposes. Sieve analysis, hydrometer tests and Atterberg limits determination were performed for the classification of the dredge material as a soil. Specific gravity tests and organic content determination were also performed. The variations at the Atterberg limits due to change of pH value of artificially prepared soil binder mixtures have been determined in order to estimate the optimum binder ratio. Standard Proctor tests were performed to understand the compaction behavior of dredge materials and finally, unconfined compression tests are performed for the evaluation of the treated soil mixtures. Sea water was used in curing method in order to supply realistic conditions. Also, different curing periods are applied in order to investigate short and long-term gains of soil in terms of stabilization. The highest improvement observed with 9% lime-soil mixture. Maximum unconfined compression strength obtained 5.76 kg/cm2 after 42 days cured samples.
