Standardize patient applications, standard patient and teaching members 'feedback student motivation and communication skills effects

Objective: This research was carried out in 2014-2015 education period of third year medical students of Akdeniz University Faculty of Medical with standard patient applications. Standard patient application program aims to increase students' motivation, communication skills and achievement scores by encountering different patient profiles with pre-clinical simulation training, establishing contact with the patient for the first time in a real environment and interacting with patients in order to learn basic skills. Method: A total of 192 students from the semester 3 students formed the research population. Motivation surveys were used as data collection tools to assess students' current situation and assess their experience in the implementation process. In addition, students were given written and verbal feedback at the end of the application Results: Through the questionnaires administered at the beginning and the end of the research, students were assessed the effects of the program on motivation and communication skills in the program "Standard Patient Practices". Based on the results, students were motivated as a result of the program, acquiring basic skills (such as physical examination, anamnesis). With this practice, they had the opportunity to perform encounter activities in standart patient laboratory, guided by teaching members, and with standard patients before clinical trainings. They have the opportunity to practice with patients, have the opportunity to communicate one-to-one, and have been able to assess themselves by increasing their awareness of their own learning and competence with feedback given as a result of the practice. In addition, student satisfaction has also increased during the training process Conclusion: As a result, "Standard Patient Practices" can be successfully used in preclinical training with appropriate planning and training.
