Climate change in Muratpaşa district of Antalya province between 1993 and 2023 using the standardized precipitation index (SYI) and Erinç index method

Abstract (EN)
This master's thesis study examines in detail the climate change and drought situation that occurred in the Muratpaşa district of Antalya province between 1993 and 2023 with the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) and Erinç Index methods. According to the results of the study, it was determined that the most suitable method to analyze the climate changes of the last 30 years in Muratpaşa district was SPI. The precipitation data required for these analyzes were obtained from Antalya Airport meteorology station number 17300 and the results were obtained by processing in the R studio environment. The findings obtained were visualized and interpreted in detail with various tables and graphs. In order to increase the reliability of the study, Erinç Index was preferred as a second method in addition to the SPI analysis. The temperature and precipitation data required for the Erinç Index were obtained from Antalya Airport meteorology station number 17300 and these data were calculated using the Microsoft Excel program. The calculated data were analyzed by turning them into graphs and tables. When the drought analysis results of Muratpaşa district between 1993 and 2023 were evaluated by years using the SPI method, it was determined that Muratpaşa district experienced an extremely humid period in 2001. According to the SPI analysis, it was determined that 2001 was the wettest year in the last 30 years with a value of 2.11, and 2008 was the driest year with -2.96. According to SPI data, there was no dry period until 2006. Since 2007, dry periods have occurred. Especially between 2013 and 2018, there were consecutive dry periods. When the drought analysis of Muratpaşa district was made using the Erinç Index method and evaluated according to years, it was determined that Muratpaşa district was generally in the "Semi-humid" category in 17 of the last 30 years. According to the Erinç Index findings, 2008 was determined as the driest year and the drought value of this year was determined as 10.67. The most humid year was determined to be 2001 with a value of 75.67. The two analyzes made as a result of this thesis study were found to confirm each other. Drought symptoms have been observed in Muratpaşa district in recent years with the decrease in the amount of precipitation. If the rains continue like this, it is predicted that the district's economy may suffer serious damage. The best way to alleviate this drought is to prevent unconscious water consumption.
