Abstract (EN)
An electric power system can control completely and flexibility if reactive powercompensation is fulfilled through power electronic based devices. A number of power electronicsdevices have been used for dynamic compensation, improving system stability and power flow.Voltage source converter (VSC) is one of the power electronic devices that used for reactivecompensation. A converter which is connected in shunt to the power system is called as staticsynchronous compensator (STATCOM).In this study, a computer simulation of STATCOM which is FACTS devices based onconverter for power flow in transmission line is carried out by using MATLAB SIMULINKTOOLBOX. In computer simulation, we preferred VSC because it is widely used in literature. We alsoused sinusoidal PWM (SPWM) technique which is known as one of the PWM technique. BecausePWM technique provides lower harmonic content and allows simplification of the interface magnetics. The dynamic response of STATCOM was observed by chancing reference reactive current from fullinductive to full capacitive and modifying the voltage of bus which STATCOM is coupled. In additionto these simulation results load compensation was done by a distribution STATCOM (D-STATCOM)and results of traditional STATCOM was presented to show difference between PWM-STATCOMand traditional STATCOM. The computer simulation results show that STATCOM have fast responseability for any change in the power system.
