Improvement of the stoneware body's technical properties adding by different additives

The body which is composed of clay, feldspar and quartz used to producestoneware products. Low water absorbtion is very important for these productsfor material life and material resistant. In this study, stoneware body and the bodywhich is water absorbtion is higher than stoneware, two different bodies chosenand different additives which has flaks properties added to these bodies. Indifferent ratios flaks additives added to two different bodies and fired at differenttemperatures. By this way product some technical properties studied to improve.At the same time by using same additivies at low temperature, technicalspecifications studied to improve.After the standart body preparing for both of the body, colemanit, calcite, boneash, boron waste and dolomite added to bodies in different ratios from %1 to %4.After these samples fired at 1150 ºC, 1200ºC and 1250ºC . At all temperaturesand for both of the body dolomite, calcite, bone ash and boron waste decreasedthe water absorbtion. Fired strength values increased with low porosity values.Water absorbtion decreased %2,5 to %0,2 with %1 boron waste.Nearly same results get with bone ash and dolomite . Water absorbtion decreasedslowly and it decreased to %0,1 by using %4 bone ash. Colemanit did notdecrease the water absorbtion ratio. For both of the body with all additivies whenthe temperature increase the water absorbtion decreased .Also with boron wastefor both of the body, water absorbtion decreased to %1 at 1150ºC. As a result,bone ash, boron waste, calcite and dolomite decreased the water absorbtion at1150ºC and 1200 ºC.Key Words : stoneware, calcite, dolomite, bone ash, boron waste, colemanite,water absorbtionii
