Bank merger with the strategic management approach: The example of Garanti-Osmanlı bank

In the following study called ? Bank Merger with the Strategic Management Approach The Example of Garanti Bankası and Osmanlı Bankası?, the strategic management process in banks was explained by introducing strategic management process, and the bank merger of Osmanlı Bankası AŞ and T. Garanti Bankası AŞ was evaluated by examining the reasons and the results of bank merger. The aim of this study is to evaluate the bank merger issue based on T. Garanti Bankası and Osmanlı Bankası bank merger with the strategic management approach.The rapid change in technology, globalization and hightened competition factors shape the banks? strategies. As a result of development and change in financial system in the last 27 years and global dimensional liberalization and development, the banks had to keep up with this restructuring. The banks chose more bank mergers and purchasing in this restructuring. In the beginning, the restructuring in Turkey was realized by bank merger of banks that are financially in bad conditions, however in the recent times, the bank merger of T. Garanti Bankası AŞ and Osmanlı Bankası AŞ and the others were the strategic purpose bank mergers.The bank merger of T. Garanti Bankası AŞ and Osmanlı Bankası AŞ was realized by reason of Doğuş Group?s long-term strategic decisions and it can be defined as the merger of technology and experience. It is very important to be the first bank merger with strategic purpose. As a result of the merger, the new bank arise stronger and have a larger market share. T. Garanti Bankası AŞ became the second biggest bank in Tukey in its active expansion by reason of planned and successful merger realization. Considering the loan and deposit rate per branch, it has a higher percentage rate over the first 20 banks and industry average. The bank merger of T. Garanti Bankası AŞ and Osmanlı Bankası AŞ was exemplary for the subsequent mergers.
