Affects of stress disorder to eating disorder and serum leptin, ghrelin, adiponectin levels

Abstract (EN)

Nowadays, individuals often encounter many stress factors. Eating habits are also affected by stress factors. Changes in the eating habits cause pathological situations called eating disorders. In our study, we aimed to explain how the stress disorders influence eating disorder and adipocytokine levels. 313 women working, studying in our hospital, or applied to our hospital as a patient were included in this study. None of the volunteers had any disease. SCOFF and PSS tests, which were validated, were performed. 120 of 313 volunteers were asked for taking blood samples for laboratory tests consisting adipocytokine and routine biochemistry. 40 of 120 women without eating disorder and with BMI between 18.5-25 were taken as control group and rest of them were taken as patient group. These case group was divided into three groups, as below 18,5, above 25 and normal, according to their BMI. Each of these fur groups were divided into two subgroups according to presence of stress disorder. Prevalence of eating disorder was 46,6 % and stress disorder was 34,5 %. Prevalence of eating disorder were higher in patients with stress disorder (54,1 %) compared to patients without stress disorder (%45,9). Routine biochemistry tests were performed in four main groups and groups were homogenous. Laboratory test were adipocytokine levels were performed in these groups. Leptin levels were found significantly lower in group with eating disorder and with BMI below 18.5, while ghrelin and adiponektin levels were higher. In patients with same VKI levels, there was no significant difference between groups with and without disorders. While leptin levels were low and adiponektin and ghrelin levels were high in subgroup with BMI below 18.5 and with stress disorder; ghrelin and adiponektin levels were low in high in subgroup with BMI above 25 and with stress disorder (p<0,05). Compared to patients ithout eating disorder, adipocytokine levels were significantly higher in all patients with eating disorder. X As a result, leptin, ghrelin, adiponectin levels were found associated with eating disorder in women with 18-30 years of age. In addition, stress contributed in eating disorder and adipocytokine levels.
