Özet (EN)

Acromegaly is a rare condition characterized by elevated levels of IGF-1 in the blood and excessive GH production. The current study was designed to assess the status of GH and IGF-1 among acromegaly patients with type 2 diabetes and to investigate the association between serum growth hormone levels, IGF-1 levels and insulin resistance. The study included 120 patients, and this study consisted of three groups (A 40 healthy controls, B 40 acromegaly patients without T2DM, and C 40 acromegaly patients with T2DM). These samples were collected during the period from November 2021 to March 2022, at the National Diabetes Center, which is one of the largest specialized centers in Iraq that deals with endocrine diseases, Samples were taken, including demographic information such as age, gender, BMI, and duration. Chemiluminescence was used to assess GH and IGF-1 levels in the bloodstream. An ELISA was used to determine the levels of TNF and insulin in the blood. The results of this study showed there was a highly significant difference between control and patients without T2DM A vs B in GH, IGF-1. In patient's groups increase in A vs C and B vs C in highly significant difference, while between A vs B there was non-significant difference in INSULIN, FBS. The biochemical parameters C-RP, Uric acid, GOT. TNF, TC, TG, HDL, LDL and VLDL there was not a significant difference between patients and the controls.
