A study towards digitalization of zakat management in bangladesh: exploring the potentials, challenges, and pathways to progress

Information and communication technologies have developed quickly because of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. A significant outcome of this revolution is digitalization, which binds and benefits a larger segment of humanity in an effective and aesthetic way. Consequently, it helps to alter the way social organizations like Zakat provide their services. Bangladesh has a huge potential for Zakat, but owing to ineffective management, the reality is still far from what is expected. Digital Zakat management has the potential to boost service productivity and produce the best possible Zakat outcomes. Therefore, this research explores the potentials and challenges of digitalization in the Zakat management system in Bangladesh. This study aims to examine the potential advantages of adopting digital technologies that will facilitate the process of managing Zakat and boost transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the process of collecting and distributing Zakat funds. Moreover, this study identifies the existing challenges that impede the establishment of effective digital Zakat management in the country. To attain these aims, this research adopts a mixed-method sequential approach that incorporates both qualitative and quantitative data gathering and analysis methods. Additionally, this research provides policymakers, Zakat organizations, and other stakeholders with a set of recommendations for overcoming the existing challenges and leveraging the potential of digitalization of Zakat management in Bangladesh.
