Özet (EN)
This research evaluates the interaction between otters and fishing enterprises operating around Borçka Dam Lake within the context of wildlife-human relationships. The study examines the presence of otters and their impacts on the enterprises from both ecological and socioeconomic perspectives. This study examines the production structure of the enterprises, the equipment used, management practices, predator pressure, and economic losses. The research was conducted with a total of 16 employees working in four fishing enterprises around Borçka Dam Lake. A 24-question survey was administered to the participants to assess their awareness, attitudes, and observations of otters. The assessments revealed that otters are regularly seen in the region and occasionally cause fish losses through net tearing. While some participants viewed the species as beneficial to the ecosystem, others viewed it as a source of economic damage. The research results revealed that current preventative measures are limited in effectiveness and that enterprises lack access to government support and compensation mechanisms. Consequently, to achieve a more balanced management of otter-human interactions, the technical infrastructure of the enterprises, employee information, and support mechanisms need to be developed. This approach will contribute to both the conservation of otters and the sustainability of fishing activities.
