Abstract (EN)

Throughout the history of the mankind, settlements on water can be found. ?Living on water? is a lifestyle in countries like Kampuchea, Thailand and Far Eastern Countries. On developed countries like USA, Canada and European Countries this lifestyle has a brand-new dimension with the support of the advanced technologies. During the last 20 years floating houses and neighborhoods has been designed and built in the Netherlands; thus the Netherlands go to the fore on its struggle against the water. Traveling, especially after the Industrial Revolution, has been improved and vacations besides the business trips have been started? These trips, have assisted mankind?s personal development by taking them out of their subjective environment and has given them the opportunity to meet new cultures. This also increased their vision about the world and become one of the most important elements of the modern human. As the culture of traveling improves, the means of travel has also been improved and kept up with the modern era. Nowadays, big cruise ships with their 3,000 passenger capacity have almost become floating cities. Today, architects and engineers are working on various projects of big floating resort-islands. These floating resorts will have their own marinas and swimming pools and accommodate 10,000 passengers at any given time. For the scientists and engineers, the subject of living on the sea is always a subject of excitement. Within the next centennial due to the global warming the sea-level will increase and the need of new living areas on the seas and oceans will determine the agenda. Because of this, there are projects available, which have been studied for long years. These will become entirely floating cities with their population of around one million. The technique of floating these cities and legal issues behind are important matters and has to be studied very carefully. Since the cities on land have no area left for expansion, they will prefer to extend themselves towards the sea. This expansion will be in the form of an addition-extension or with the help of the shuttles connecting the off-shore and land. Stand-alone floating cities will cruise all around the world constantly moving. The subject of life on the water will bring many architectural, technical, social and legal questions alongside. Key words: Living on water, Global warming, Travel and tourism building, Floating Houses, Floating Cities.
