88 SUMMARY The Moss flora of Subice Mountain, one of the important sectors of Menderes massif have been studied. At the result of identifications of 305 specimen, collected from the area, 105 moss species belonging to 17 families and 45 genera, and 10 species of hornworts (1) and liverworts (9) belonging to 8 families and 9 genera have been found. 12 taxa of mosses are new records for square Cll according to Henderson's (1961) grid system among the others. As a natural result of regional climate, Pottiaceae was determined as the family having the highest number of species. Acrocarpous mosses contribute 68.6% and pleurocarpous mosses conribute 3 1.4 % of total flora. Among the taxa, distributed on the research area, Fissidens crassipes, Didymodon tophaceus, Cinclidotus fontinaloides, Bryum alpinum, B. muehlenbeckii, B. pseudotriquetrum, Epipterygium tozeri, Plagomnium undulatum, Philonotis arnellii, P. caespitosa, P. fontana, Fontinalis antipyretica, Rhynchostegium riparioides, Eurhynchium spp. are the species that may have risks to be endangered if extreme increase in aridness occurs in future. Polytrichwn juniperinum, Ceratodon purpureus, Tortula intermedia, T. ruralis, T. ruraliformis, T. subulata, Barbula unguiculata, Didymodon vinealis, Plevrochaete squamosa Dicranowessia cirrata, Timmiella anamala, Grimmia lisae, G. laevigata G. pulvinata, G. trichophylla, Bryum capillare, B. eaespiticium, Bartramia stricta, Anacolia webbii, Hedwigia ciliata and Fabronia pusula are the species, forming local communities of open habitats. Pterogonium gracile, Antitrichia californica, Leucodon sciuroides, Homalothecium sericeum, H. aureum, Hypnum cupressiforme are the most common community forming pleurocarpous species in the area. It is thought that it will be proper to declare Subice Mountain and it's vicinities forbidden area for bryophyte harvesting activities becouse of it's destroyed natural vegetation and lacking of permanent aquatic or wet environments.
