Abstract (EN)

The misusage of volatile chemicals for pleasure rather than industrial purposes has been increasing for a long time. Some of the well known side effects of thinner and thinner like compounds are: causing the increase of ROS, damage to cellular components e.g. DNA, proteins, lipids and cellular aging. Living organisms defend and tolerate themselves against to their harms. The present study was carried out to determine both the effects of sub-chronic thinner inhalation on oxidant-antioxidant balance, and relation between toxicity and oxidative stress and possible protective effect of ?-lipoic acid against to thinner toxication in rats. In the study, rats, Sprague-Dawley, were divided into 5 groups as follow: Control (K), Olive oil (Z), ?-lipoic acid (LA), Thinner (T), and ?-lipoic acid+thinner (LAT). Each group was composed of 15 rats and study lasted 8 weeks. After completing the animal studies, MDA, GSH, MetHb, Toluol, and mononuclear leucocyte damage levels, protein oxidation, NOx metabolites, TAC, Glucose, Total Cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-Cholesterol, LDL-Cholesterol, AST and ALT levels were determined in the blood specimen of the rats employed. The data obtained from the study were analysed statistically by using SPSS package software and both Anova and Duncan tests were performed. p<0.05 level was accepted as statistically significant level. The results indicated that ? -Lipoic acid has protective and balancing effect against to complications occured by thinner inhalation in rats.
