The perception of deliquenct juveniles' mothers related to their children: An example of Siirt

The purpose of this study is to determine the family factors which are among the reasons of juvenile recidivism. This study is carried out thoroughly with the 20 mothers whose social investigation report are written about their children delinquency by the Siirt Family and Social Politics Provincial Directorate. Interview were conducted in the homes mothers. During the interviews, recorder was used with the permission of the mothers. Qualitative method is chosen for this study's method. Accordingly, the evaluation of experience of mothers related to their children delinquency was made in a comprehensive manner. The data of the study was collected via social investigation reports about the juveniles, semi structured interview form, and by one to one interview technique. As a result of analysis of the data of this study, significant findings about the recedivism in the city were obtained. Most of the delinquent juveniles have multi siblings. It has emerged that mothers mostly correlated their children delinquency with the peer influence, social influence, poverty, lack of education. Another important element which was emerged during the interview with the mothers is children being exposed to physical abuse (family, school, social environment) every moment of their life's. Almost every juveniles whose mothers' joined the study were convicted. It was determined that most of the juveniles have habits of using cigarette, marijuana and drug. Almost every mother joined the study stated that their children had unsuccesful educational life and dropped out of school. As a result of the study, it is determined that there is absence of appropriate role models for juveniles exposed to recidivism and there is insufficient social reinforcement area in the city for juveniles to spend their times. In accordance with information obtained from the mothers, suggestions are included to prevent juvenile recidivism in the study.
