Abstract (EN)
Sudan is the biggest landmass of African continent which attracts attentions with her heterogenic society in terms of ethnicity, religion and culture. Ethnic, religious and cultural differences appeared when artificial borders were created by colonial powers. These differences were left as colonial legacy to Sudan as left to many African countries.Sudan declared her independence in 1st of January 1956, however shadow of colonial policies were seen in many issues which comes from past to the present. In this respect, political structure which was created by colonial policies played considerable role in Darfur crisis in the period that problem of southern Sudan and Africa?s long standing civil war continued. In addition to economic problems, political contestation and unstable political structure led Sudan in the brink of separation. Thereby in this regard, core of the issues with which Sudan has still tried to cope stems from colonial policies that has led to alienation of people and separation of the South and the North.In addition to her geopolitics significance, the rich natural resources of Sudan led to foreign intervention inevitable to country?s domestic issues. As a result of that, initially Sudan attracted attentions in international arena with the problem of the Southern Sudan. Afterwards, with outbreak of Darfur crisis, Sudan has became one of the most significant issue in which international community interested in since 2003. Besides, atrocities that took place in Darfur region empowered the interventionist arguments of western world and made the administration of Bashir target. As a result of that, Sudan turned into an arena where the USA, the EU and China cope with each other in order to maximize their economical and political interests.Key Words: Sudan, Southern Sudan Problem, Darfur Crisis, Colonialism, Omar al-Bashir.
