The emanation of the world from God in Suhrawardi

Each ontology, as the science of being, has to predict a beginning and a functioning related to the existing realms. This requirement also applies to ontologies that were developed by Muslim thinkers. In this context, the theory of emanation has been adopted especially by Muslim philosophers, and has had an initial and functioning prediction regarding the universe. Muslim philosophers gained a special place among Muslim thinkers with the theory of emanation. This specific place is directly related to the effectiveness of what they say, the development of counter-responses by being taken into account or rejected. Suhrawardi is among these above-mentioned thinkers. Although the understanding of Farabi and Avicenna regarding emanation among these philosophers were translated into Turkish, it is a serious shortcoming that such a study was not conducted for Suhrawardi, who had a more original theory of emanation. In this context, the hypothesis of the current study, which was based on Hikmetu'l-Israk, was the claim that Suhrawardi revealed a more consistent and holistic emanation scheme with his interventions to Messai Sudura. In the first part of the study, which consisted of three parts, the understanding of emanation of Farabi and Avicenna is summarized to provide a basis and for comparison. The second part dealt with the main subject of the study. In this part, the basic concepts of Suhrawardi's emanation, his view of existence, God concept, emergence of emanation, vertical and horizontal divine lights (i.e. kahir noor), and understanding of the "object" were addressed. The understanding of emanation of Suhrawardi here has a monistic and theoretical character. The third part deals with the criticisms of Suhrawardi regarding Messai Philosophers and theologians particularly regarding emanation. These criticisms are important in terms of showing the point of view of Suhrawardi regarding his interlocutors and positioning himself according to them.
