Writing instruction in Kavai̇d-i̇ Tahri̇r which belongs Süleyman Şevket and comparison of this work with today's Turkish writing instruction

Kavaid-i Tahrir which is the subject to four thesis and written by Süleyman Şevket consists of two hundred and thirty-eight pages. In this study, this book published in 1329 was studied within the framework of contemporary writing education after being transferred to the Latin alphabet. While the book was discussed within the context of writing training which represents an important aspect of Turkish education, it is limited to the scientific articles about writing training. In the books called "Turkish Education Guidebook" which is written under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Abdurrahman Güzel and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halit Karatay and also which we made use of considerable and called "Writing Training" written under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Murat Özbay, the related chapters were evaluated comparatively. After the subjects such as the source of the language, a description of the language from various angles, the theories that define the language, the criticism of the theories, the classification of languages and punctuation are explained through text examples, 'writing' as a skill area is discussed in various aspects.On the other hand, the principles of successful writing education are presented carrefuly with examples. Perhaps the most remarkable part of the book is the section about the suggestions that should be paid attention to improve the writing skills. The stages of text creation process are listed in the book; types of texts (such as letters, rhetoric, history, spectacle, and poetry) are revealed comparatively and features of them are discussed through several examples. Thus, the necessary characters for the development of writing education are given with examples perceptibly. In this study, writing education as a skill area of theTurkish language is brought into focus. First of all the related chapters of "Kavaid-i Tahrir" written by Süleyman Şevket (as a work of Ottoman alphabet) were translated into the Latin alphabet and the book has been evaluated in the context of contenporary writing education.
