Examination of some Safavid period manuscripts in Süleymaniye Library in terms of their binding illumination

As an indicator of our civilization, manuscripts have been given great value for generations. For this reason, there are many manuscripts in our country that have continued to both production and collections. Some of these works are archived in manuscript libraries and some of them are in various collections. Many manuscripts are still waiting to be revealed. As unique treasures, our manuscripts are the most beautiful indicators of our culture that has evolved over the ages as documents that illuminate history. It is very important to protect the manuscripts and to transfer them to future generations. In this context, manuscript studies and their introduction to literature indicate the importance of the subject. It will be possible for researchers and studies to enlighten our civilization and to increase the interest shown in this area by dozens of more treasures waiting to be discovered.In the study named Examination of Some Safavid Period Manuscripts in Süleymaniye Library in Terms of Their Binding Illumination which I have chosen as the subject of my study, it is aimed to catalog the volume of some manuscripts in the Süleymaniye Library. Sultan Ahmad 1 collection in Süleymaniye Library poses the importance of the work previously did not detailed study on binding ornamentation of these works. In this context, ten qualified works in terms of binding decoration are discussed. The history of the manuscripts examined could not be determined exactly, but the style of applied decoration and the quality of the materials used show similar features with the large size Shiraz manuscripts prepared by using valuable materials between 1580-1590. In these years when the production of flashy and oversized manuscripts reached its peak, binding were decorated with paints obtained from precious metals such as gold, silver and lapis lazuli. Şemse, köşebend and gaps between them are decorated with floral motifs, showy rumi and clouds placed on the circular spirals. The internal and external volumes of the manuscripts examined were examined in detail. Composition analysis and materials were explained and supported by visuals.
